This privacy policy explains how Tattoo Lab Studios Limited (“Tattoo Lab”, “we” or “us”) collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when you visit tattoolab.ca, send us a booking, piercing or job application form, contact us, or get tattooed or pierced at our studio at 221 Herring Cove Rd, Halifax, Nova Scotia. We follow Canada’s federal private-sector privacy law, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

Information We Collect

Tattoo booking and contact forms: your first and last name, date of birth, email address, phone number, preferred contact method, how you heard about us, your availability or preferred dates, tattoo placement, how flexible you are with the design, the style you’re looking for, your budget range, a description of your idea and any reference images you upload.

Piercing booking form: your first and last name, date of birth, email address, phone number, preferred contact method, how you heard about us, your availability or preferred dates, the type of piercing and any additional details.

Job applications: your name, phone number, email address, date of birth, city and province, portfolio or Instagram link, your answers about yourself, your art experience and the tools and styles you use, the position you’re interested in, when you could start, your availability, your work eligibility in Canada, a resume or CV link, your references and anything else you choose to share. If you list references, please make sure they’re happy for us to contact them.

When you contact us directly: the details and messages you send us by phone, text message, email, WhatsApp or Instagram.

At your appointment: we check valid government-issued photo ID showing your date of birth and keep a copy of your ID with your signed consent form, along with the information you give us on that form. For clients aged 16–17 getting a tattoo, we also record the consent of a parent or legal guardian.

Payments: when you pay a deposit or for your service by e-Transfer, credit or debit card, or cash, we keep a record of the payment. Card and e-Transfer payments are handled by the payment provider or your bank. Our website doesn’t take or store card numbers.

When you use our website: like most websites, ours automatically receives technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you visit and how you found our site. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies, described below.

How We Use Your Information

to reply to your inquiry and plan your tattoo or piercing, including your design, estimate, deposit and appointment time
to confirm age, ID and consent requirements
to send you a confirmation email when you submit a form, and to contact you about your booking, aftercare and touch-ups
to review job applications and contact applicants
to keep records of our services and payments, and to meet our legal and permit obligations
to protect our forms from spam and abuse
to understand how visitors use our website and how people find us, including through online ads when we run them

We don’t sell your personal information.

Photos of Your Tattoo or Piercing

We may photograph your finished tattoo or piercing. We only share these photos on our website or social media with your permission, and you can ask us to remove a photo at any time.

Your Consent

By sending us a form or contacting us, you agree that we may use your information as described in this policy. You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us, although we may then be unable to book or complete your appointment. We’ll ask for your consent again before using your information for a new purpose.

Who Can See Your Information

Form submissions are emailed to the studio and stored in our website’s password-protected admin area. Only the studio owner reads booking, piercing and job application submissions. We share information only when needed:

With the artist or piercer who does your appointment, so they can prepare for it.
With service providers that run our website, email and online tools, such as our web and email host (Hostinger) and Google (analytics, spam protection, maps and videos). Their handling of information is also covered by their own privacy policies.
When you choose a third-party service to contact us or find us, such as WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook or Google Maps. That service’s own privacy policy applies.
When the law requires it, for example to respond to a valid legal request.

Cookies, Analytics and Spam Protection

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies:

Google Analytics (through Google Site Kit) to measure visits and how people use our site.
Google Tag Manager to manage measurement tags, including measuring calls from Google Ads when we run ads.
Google reCAPTCHA on our forms to block spam. reCAPTCHA collects hardware and software information and sends it to Google for analysis. Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply.
Embedded Google Maps and YouTube videos, which may set their own cookies when they load or when you play them.
Your browser’s storage, which our website uses to remember things like whether you’ve already seen a popup.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s opt-out browser add-on. Some features, such as spam protection on our forms, may not work without cookies.

Where Your Information Is Stored

Our website, form submissions and studio email are hosted by our service providers. Some of them, including Google, may store or process information outside Canada, for example in the United States, where it may be accessible to authorities under local laws.

How Long We Keep Your Information

Inquiries and reference images: up to 24 months after our last contact with you, then deleted.
Job applications: up to 12 months after you apply, then deleted.
Client records, such as your consent form, ID copy and payment records: for as long as we need them to provide our services and touch-ups and to meet our legal, permit and tax obligations, then securely destroyed.

How We Protect Your Information

We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information, including a secure (HTTPS) website, password-protected accounts and limiting access to the people who need it. No method of storing or sending information is completely secure, so please don’t send ID documents, card numbers or passwords through our website forms or chat.

Payment safety: before sending any payment, please confirm you’re talking to an official Tattoo Lab employee.

Your Privacy Rights

You can ask us to:

tell you what personal information we hold about you and how we use it
correct information that’s wrong or incomplete
withdraw your consent, or delete information we no longer need to keep

Contact us using the details below, and we’ll respond within 30 days. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Children

Our website isn’t intended for children under 16. The minimum age for tattoos is 16, and clients aged 16–17 need consent from a parent or legal guardian, who must be present for the entire session. Piercing age requirements vary by piercing type.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
