Yes, Tattoo Lab takes walk-in tattoos and piercings in Halifax, Nova Scotia, depending on artist and piercer availability. Piercings are usually easier to fit in than tattoos. Call or text 902-448-2211 before you come, and we’ll tell you who’s available and whether there’s a wait.

The studio is at 221 Herring Cove Rd, Halifax, and general hours are 11 AM to 10 PM daily.

Walk-In Essentials

  • Walk-ins depend on availability. Calling or texting ahead is always recommended.
  • Piercings are usually easier to fit in, depending on which piercer is working.
  • Bring valid government-issued photo ID showing your date of birth. It’s required for all clients.
  • Tattoos are 16+. Clients aged 16–17 need a parent or legal guardian, who must be present for the entire session.
  • Small, simple designs suit same-day tattoos best. Large or detailed pieces are better booked ahead.

How Walk-In Tattoos Work at Tattoo Lab

A walk-in is simply a tattoo or piercing without an appointment booked in advance. Because every artist and piercer has their own schedule, the easiest way to get a same-day spot is to message us first.

  1. Text or call 902-448-2211 with your idea, the approximate size and placement, and a reference photo if you have one.
  2. We check availability and tell you whether an artist or piercer can fit you in, and roughly when.
  3. Come to the studio with your photo ID. You’ll fill in a consent form before your tattoo or piercing.
  4. Talk through the details with your artist, including the design, size and placement, before you start.

There may be a wait at busy times, especially on evenings and weekends, so allow some extra time in your day.

Which Tattoos Work Best as Walk-Ins?

Same-day tattoos work best when the design is small and simple enough to draw up and finish in one visit. Popular walk-in ideas include:

  • small fine line tattoos, such as a word, a date or a small symbol
  • simple script and lettering
  • small flowers, leaves, hearts, moons and stars
  • matching tattoos with a friend or partner

Larger and more detailed work, such as realism and black and grey tattoos, colour tattoos, cover-ups and pieces that need more than one session, is best planned in advance. Your artist can then design it properly and set aside enough time. Consultations are free for most tattoos.

Walk-In Piercings

Piercings are usually the easiest service to get as a walk-in. The piercings available depend on which piercer is working, as not every piercer offers every type, so please call or text before coming in.

  • We offer ear, nose, belly button, tongue and more.
  • We use titanium jewellery, with upgrades available, such as studs or gold.
  • Prices vary by piercing type and jewellery upgrades. See tattoo and piercing prices.
  • Age requirements vary by piercing type, including whether consent from a parent or legal guardian is needed, so please confirm with your piercer.

What to Bring

  • Government-issued photo ID showing your date of birth, such as a driver’s licence or passport.
  • Reference photos on your phone, plus the exact wording if your tattoo includes text.
  • A parent or legal guardian if you’re 16 or 17 and getting a tattoo. They need to stay for the whole session.
  • Payment: we accept credit and debit cards, e-Transfer, and cash where possible. We don’t offer payment plans.

When It's Better to Book Ahead

Walk-ins are great for small, spontaneous pieces. Book an appointment instead if you want a large or custom design, a specific artist, or a time that suits you. Booked appointments work like this:

  • Send your idea through the Book Now form or text us.
  • Your artist plans the design with you. Consultations are free for most tattoos.
  • A deposit secures your date. Deposits vary by tattoo and appointment, and your artist confirms the amount. They are non-refundable and go toward your final price.
  • With at least 7 days’ notice, your deposit moves to the new date if you need to reschedule.

Before sending any payment, please confirm you’re talking to an official Tattoo Lab employee. See how booking works for every step.
